Private Lessons

Many times a player and their parents are not able to attend a volleyball camp or find time to play with a team. The advantage of private lessons is that they can be scheduled at the convenience of the player. Usually there are at least two players present however, individual lessons are also available. When Coach Hutch gives a private lesson, he requires that an adult be present. In addition to getting the adult’s assistant in filming the session (don’t worry, you just have to push a button) the parent is told what and why Coach Hutch is advising a player in certain techniques. Depending upon the session, the video of the lesson may be uploaded to this page in order to allow the parents and the player to watch the video in preparation for the next private lesson. These videos are password protected.

Until the athlete has mastered a technique, Hutch will not require or encourage high repetition. To do otherwise encourages the player to develop muscle memory of a poorly executed technique. Therefore, during the developmental phase of learning a technique, there is more filming and analyzing than repetition. Whether or not you use Coach Hutch for a private lesson, don’t confuse high activity for high achievement when taking private lessons.

The individual honors listed on the Hutch Camp page include several people who have taken private lessons from Coach Hutch in addition to attending Hutch Camp.
The rates for private lessons are as follows:

Cost per hour:
1 player (1 hour minimum): $40
2 – 3 players (1 ½ hour minimum): $30 per player
